The need for funding
Major progress has been made in the fight against cancer, yet the battle is far from over. More and more people are touched by the disease, directly or indirectly, yet fewer and fewer people will die from it. Corporate sponsorships and donations are therefore essential to the realization of the Canadian Cancer Society's mission to eradicate cancer and to improve the quality of life of people living with cancer.
By supporting The Daffodil Ball, you can help the Society maintain and even increase its role in the never ending fight against cancer. We need your help.
$48.9 million for research in 2010-2011
The funds raised by The Daffodil Ball allow the CCS to:
- Fund research. In 2010-2011, The CCS allocated $48.9 million for multifaceted research on various types of cancer. These funds enable scientists to discover new ways to understand, prevent, treat and diagnose cancer, as well as to offer more efficient treatments with fewer side effects and less aggressive surgeries.
- Offer support for people living with cancer (patients and their families). The CCS is there to enhance the quality of life of those living with cancer by offering emotional, material and financial support. Among those services are the Jacques-Cantin Lodge in Montreal and Cancer J'écoute, a telephone support program.
- Promote healthy lifestyles and strategies to reduce cancer risk.
- Become a leader in information. CCS offers a wide variety of up-to-date information on cancer, treatments, prevention and available resources. This information is available via its Cancer Information Service at 1 888 939-3333, its website at cancer.ca and numerous publications.
- Advocate for public policies conducive to good health and cancer control.
